How to Become a Fishing Guide in Wisconsin

Wisconsin issues a Resident Guide License and a Nonresident Guide License. These are two different licenses, with separate application forms.

Requirements

  • Applicants must complete the Guide License application
  • Originals are issued through Bureau of Customer and Outreach Services in Madison
  • Renewals are posted to your DNR customer ID account at the beginning of the calendar year
  • DNR only issues guide licenses; it cannot guarantee quality or credibility of guide
  • Resident Guide license includes the privilege to guide others in: hunting, fishing and trapping
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
  • Application fee for resident: $40
  • Application fee for nonresident: $100
  • License is valid from Jan 1 to Dec 31
